North Carolina woman arrested after sheltering 27 canine, cats deserted right through Florence

BLADENBORO, N.C. — a woman who took in more than two dozen dogs and cats right through typhoon Florence has been charged with working towards veterinary medicine and not using a license. Tammie Hedges, founder of crazy's Claws N Paws animal rescue, become arrested Friday after 27 dogs and cats were confiscated from a temporary guard. 

Hedges advised the information-Argus of Goldsboro that she felt she had to help the animals brought to her all the way through the storm. 

"We were attempting to aid abandoned animals," Hedges mentioned. "a bunch of us got together to do whatever thing to aid these animals. [That's] why we opened our building to them, so they'd have a secure dry location to head except their homeowners again to get them."

Hedges noted she gave amoxicillin to a few in poor health animals and also used a topical antibiotic ointment. She's additionally charged with soliciting a donation of tramadol, a prescription painkiller on occasion used for canine and cats. 

In a press release, Wayne County mentioned animal manage officers had "serious challenge involving the apply of veterinary drugs with no license and the presence of controlled components."

Frank Sauls, animal services supervisor for the county, informed the news-Argus that "if we didn't think like anything else changed into being achieved incorrect, we would not have taken [the animals]."
