Hobie Cats set sail during 50-12 months anniversary party in Dana element

Fifty years ago, Hobie Alter created the primary-ever Hobie Cat catamaran on the stretch of beach in entrance of Wayne Schafer's Capo beach domestic.

A gathering turned into held at Doheny State seaside on Saturday, Oct. 27 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Hobie Cat, dubbed "the people's boat."

"We went straight to the people," noted surfer Phil Edwards, who helped Alter verify out the primary models. "It changed into a revolution."

Surf to sail

Alter became already a well-known surfboard maker. together with Gordon "Grubby" Clark, he revolutionized the procedure through the use of polyurethane foam as a greater lightweight, low-cost exchange for heavy balsa wood.
